Kids, enter our art and essay contests

July is National Park and Recreation Month. This year marks the 40th anniversary of a time to celebrate park and recreation professionals and how they improve the lives of tens of millions of people, making a lasting impact in communities across the country.

In recognition, Valley-Wide is offering our inaugural essay and art contests for children 5 to 17. Winners will receive free registration for one Valley-Wide sport or up to six tickets to any Valley-Wide event that requires admission (aquatic center passes, holiday events, family fun runs).

ESSAY - Essays will be broken up into age categories: Ages 10-13 and 14-17. Topics to choose from: 1.) What does "#IAmValleyWide" mean to you? or 2.) Why is Valley-Wide good for the community?

Essays must be a minimum of 1 full page, single space, .5” margins, typed. A panel of judges will read each essay and the winners will be announced via social media.

ART - Ages 5-9 will create an art piece: poster size (11x17) colorful, detailed drawing or diorama of their local Valley-Wide facility and the sport they’re involved in. Art piece should showcase: the gym or field, players/teammates, coaches, parents/spectators and any other element that pertains to their sport.

Email your essay or artwork to Fun@GoRecreation.org or drop it off at your nearest Valley-Wide facility by July 18. Winners will be announced in the August newsletter. Good luck to all the contestants!
